Richard Zou, Class of 2008
Richard is an active member of community service at
Albuquerque Academy, and he has participated in
numerous activities to read to elementary school
children through a program called First Book. He
also volunteered to help children learn and become
actively involved in the field of science through a
program called PB&J Science. Richard used to be a
Teacher's Assistant for Albuquerque
Academy summer session, as well. Richard plans
to utilize his passion for science and experience with
working children as the Director of the first
ScienceDays chapter set up in the Southwest region.
He also plans on using his networking skills as Chair
of the Student Foundation Board at AA. Richard
has done science research and participated in the 2007
Intel International Science and Engineering Fair,
where he won an award for a scholarship and tied for
4th place in Medicine and Health. He is a member
of the Speech and Debate team as well as Model United
Nations, which travel to various tournaments around
the United States annually. In addition, he has
interned for Congresswoman Heather Wilson at her
District Office in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He loves
community service, and he is part of Albuquerque Youth
In Action (AYIA) as well as the Albuquerque Academy's
executive board and honor society. With his extra
time, he engages himself in mathematics contests such
as the AMC, Mandelbrot, and UNM-PNM.
David Liou, Class of 2008
David is a member of the community service
organization at Albuquerque Academy, and actively
leads many projects within the school and surrounding
community, earning the Service Honor Society Award.
Aside from working with ScienceDays, David also is the
head of a project working with the Animal Humane
Association. He also volunteers in the Critical
Cardiac Care at his local Presbyterian Hospital.
During the summer, David did independent research at
the University of New Mexico working on the genetic
basis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He has also worked as
a Teaching Assistant for Albuquerque Academy Summer
School, where he learned to work well with elementary
school children. Currently, David also helps coach the
biology division of Albuquerque Academy's Science
Olympiad team, and plans to utilize his connections
within the community as well as his connections as a
member of Albuquerque Academy Student Foundation to
expand the Southwest Chapter of ScienceDays. David is
also a varsity member of the respected Speech and
Debate team as well as the Model United Nations team,
both of which travel to many nationally renown
tournaments. He also participates in many
international mathematics contests such as the AMC,
AIME, Mandelbrot, and iTest. In his spare time, David
enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with family
and close friends.
