Chapter Director:
Melisa Wong, Class of 2011.
By directing the ScienceDays chapter at her
school, Melisa hopes "to encourage young students to
be more involved in science, since science is all
around them." She says, "young students are
usually unmotivated about science and I intend to
change that. I want young students to know how
important and fun science can be through science
activities and experiments. Since there is a broad
range of topics that fall under science, numerous
experiments would be created and shown to the
students, as well as the students doing their own.
By doing science experiments themselves, they can find
and expand their curiosity for science and hopefully
continue to be motivated by science. Melisa is
also has been a member of the Augustine Chapter of the
National Junior Honor Society for two consecutive
years. She is also a member of the organization
"Building a Better Tomorrow".
Past Chapter
Director:
2006-2007:
Nina
Wong, Class of 2007, Stanford '11.
By founding a
ScienceDays chapter at her school, Nina hoped to
involve high-achieving students in the community to
promote advancement in science. Two or three
elementary schools would be involved in this outreach
in addition to a series of events at a local library
for students who do not attend the participating
elementary schools. Nina contacted local venues such
as Madie Ives Elementary School, Ojus Elementary
School, Miami, and North Miami Beach Library. Nina is
an active leader in the school community and has a
passion for science research, participating in
competitions such as ISEF 2007 in Albuquerque.
