Chapter Director:
Netia McCray, Class of 2008; MIT '12.
The Tallahassee chapter of ScienceDays provides an
after-school program for female middle school students
focused on science and mathematics. Their activities
for the 07-08 year have included field trips and a
science fair. The chapter has also been profiled in
news outlets such as The Tallahassee Democrat and WCTV.
Netia is an accomplished young scientist and has been
named Outstanding
Volunteer of the Year at Lincoln High School,
Tallahassee Democrat Volunteer of the Year Youth
Finalist, Best and Brightest 2008- Leadership (LHS),
Sunshine State Scholar Finalist, Leon County Student
School Board Representative, NAACP ACT-SO
2008 Chemistry Winner, and a MIT Wesley L. Harris
Winner. In leading the Tallahassee chapter of
ScienceDays, Netia follows the vision that "the
current and potential problems that the world will
face within the next decade will directly affect this
generation. ScienceDays hopes to change this by
exposing young girls to the wonders and mysteries of
science and mathematics, hopefully persuading some to
pursue a career in mathematics and science or obtain a
strong background in science and mathematics".
